EXCLUSIVE! Betty White Wants To Host The Oscars!

We still want The Muppets to host…but Betty would be an EXTREMELY CLOSE second choice! Or maybe she can host WITH Kermit, Miss Piggy, and all the others!!! EPIC!
A very lucky Perezcious Reader got the wonderful opportunity to see Betty White speak at Southern California's Distinguished Speaker Series in Pasadena last night….and sure enough, the [...]

Country domination! Woot, woot!

Last night, the CMA Awards were rocking in the homes of 16.3 million total viewers, clearly winning the night in the ratings against The X Factor, Survivor and others. The telecast scored a solid 4.8 with the coveted 18-49 demo, which is pretty on par for what the show brought in last year.

The only show to see a gain last night (sorry Simon) was NBC's Harry's Law, which was up 18 percent in the demo.

Well, we know where America stands on country music, huh!

Cheap Electric Guitars How Can I Effectively Care For Them?

Guitar effects pedals come in a wide variety but the fact is that most guitar effects are just variations on four basic themes: Distortion, Dynamics, Reverb/Delay, and Pitch Modulation. They also come in a variety of configurations which were initially, single effects built into pedals, called stomp boxes, which grew into multi-effects processors built into both floor pedals, rackmount, and tabletop units. Many also include drum machines and headphone jacks for practice purposes.

Last night David and I made our way to the Neil Simon Theater on Broadway to see the new musical Catch Me If You Can. Altho I had not seen the film, I was very anxious to see this show because one of my favorite Broadway actresses, Kerry Butler, stars in the show. I was only marginally familiar with the story so I hoped that seeing it cold would be entertaining. For the most part, I thought the show was OK … but, unfortch, it wasn’t nearly as exciting or upbeat as I was hoping.

The staging, set design, costumes and overall look of the show are really it’s strongest assets. You can tell that a lot of thought about the time period went into the staging and production of the show. The overriding problem for me was the story … the long, drawn out … not very exciting story. You’d think that a show with an exciting title like Catch Me If You Can would be upbeat, sexy and feature lots of action and showy dance numbers. Sadly, that is not the case. Most of the story in Act I was just rattled off in dialogue … there weren’t too many catchy numbers to sing along to. Of the songs in the show, I couldn’t even remember any of them after the show was over … well, except for one song. Kerry Butler belts out a showstopping number (Fly, Fly Away) at the very end of the show that is THE best song of the show. I was very surprised, tho, that Kerry isn’t featured AT ALL in the entire first Act … and she is billed as the female lead. Thankfully, Act II picked up considerably and manages to save the show from being a total snooze but as a whole … the show only ends up “OK”. That being said, I’m very glad I got to see the show and did enjoy myself, for the most part. I will say that Catch Me If You Can isn’t a show that I would ever feel the need to see again and it’s not a show that I would call a Must See. Lead actor Aaron Tveit is fine in his role as Frank Abagnale, Jr. but for me the real star of the show is Norbert Leo Butz who plays FBI agent Carl Hanratty. He was the best actor/character in the show. David and I had fun but we’ve seen better shows. If you’re a fan of the Catch Me If You Can story, this show might be for you … otherwise, you may be a bit disappointed by the show’s lack of real excitement.

Rockabilly Music: Why It Still Matters

Perhaps one of the most colourful and enduring country singers of all time has to be George Jones - but is he the best country singer ever? A recent poll carried out within the country music industry named George Jones as the greatest living country singer, and it would be hard to ignore the fact - whatever your own opinion may be.

Learning to Feel the Music Your Guitar Makes

I've written a lot of articles recently on the topic of rockabilly. Throughout the past couple of months I've forced myself to think about the music, to learn about the music, to feel the music, to hear the music, and to write about the music. Why? What would prompt me to spend so much of my time putting all these thoughts together about a genre of music that had its fleeting moment of glory for a few short years almost 60 years ago and was all but forgotten as quickly as it burst upon the music scene? Good question.

Donald Trump Fires Gary Busey From Celebrity Apprentice

During last night’s episode of Celebrity Apprentice, Donald Trump fired actor Gary Busey after the men′s team, Backbone lost another challenge. Busey was the team’s Project Manager and was largely responsible for the loss. During a contentious board room meeting, Meatloaf, Lil John and John Rich all blamed Busey for being disorganized and were all frustrated by his crazy antics. The ladies’ team, ASAP, won the Omaha Steak challenge with former Playboy playmate Hope Dworaczyk leading as PM, enjoying a victory with her team of LaToya Jackson, Marlee Matlin, Nene Leakes and Star Jones. Barraza/WENN.com Gary Busey took the firing in good fashion and even added his trademark crazy-spin to it. Upon driving off in the back of the car, Gary said “I can turn a thunderstorm and a tornado into a rainbow and I′m flying over a rainbow tonight. Who knows? That could be true.” Yeah, right, Gary! You certainly are flying over a rainbow! The series had begun with the men′s team, Backbone, defeating the women repeatedly. ASAP had many personality conflicts and lost several challenges in a row.
